In December 2019, the European Commission announced the Green Deal, a project aiming to achieve ‘climate neutrality’ for the European bloc by 2050. While the project highlights the environmental crisis and proposes ambitious changes, much debate was triggered as to the feasibility and fairness of the Green Deal in the context of the reform of the CAP.
As a young and growing media outlet, we have decided to delve into the heart of the ecological and agricultural matter and, with the help of political figures and ecological activists, help our audience craft an opinion for themselves.
On the 15th of December 2020, a Zoom debate accessible to all will be hosted discussing the Green Deal and its implication for our environment.
- Félix Tuchais, the policy advisor for the committees Agriculture and rural development (AGRI) and Fisheries (PECH),
- Stanka Becheva, campaigner of Friends of the Earth Europe,
- Léna Brisset, a policy officer at IFOAM Organics Europe
- Faustine Bas-Defossez, the Head of Agriculture and Land Management Programme for the IEEP,
will engage in a debate touching upon the topics from the compatibility of the CAP and Green Deal to the recent trend of ‘greenwashing’.

L’actualité ne manque pas de nous rappeler le caractère qualifié parfois d’unique de la laïcité française. Ce principe, servant en principe à mener à bien la coexistence de différentes convictions ainsi qu’à séparer l’Eglise et l’Etat, semble en pratique porter atteinte aux libertés religieuses dans un certain nombre de domaines. De même en Belgique, bien qu’une série de cultes soient reconnus et financés, la nécessaire neutralité dans le cadre des fonctions publiques semble également laisser peu de place aux libertés religieuses pourtant fondamentales.
Qu’est-ce qui, juridiquement et philosophiquement, justifie, la restriction de port de signes convictionnels ? Sont-elles sources de discrimination pour une partie de la population ? Enfin, quelles sont les différences et similitudes entre le cas belge et français ?
Pour ce faire, nous aurons le plaisir d’accueillir les spécialistes en la matière ; Jean-Yves Pranchère, Mehmet Alparslan Saygin et Stéphanie Hennette Vauchez.

En effet, au sein de l’Union européenne, l’énergie nucléaire constitue près de 26 % de l’électricité produite dans l’Union. Tandis que ce sont les États membres qui décident de l’opportunité d’inclure ou non l’énergie nucléaire dans leur bouquet énergétique, la législation de l’Union vise à améliorer les normes de sûreté applicables aux centrales nucléaires et à garantir que les déchets nucléairessoient traités et éliminés en toute sécurité. Mais, le changement climatique constitue aujourd’hui une préoccupation majeure et l’énergie nucléaire peut être vue comme une des solutions possibles pour combattre ce problème environnemental.
Quid du nucléaire dans l’Union Européenne ? Nous vous proposerons de débattre sur la question en abordant trois aspects:- Environnement: Les énergies vertes sont-elles actuellement capables d’assurer la relève? Les risques environnementaux liés à l’énergie nucléaire sont-ils plus importants que ceux liés aux énergies fossiles?
- Géopolitique: Pour le moment, l’UE est caractérisée d’une forte dépendance énergétique par rapport aux pays étrangers. Est-ce que la production européenne d’énergie nucléaire s’inscrit-elle dans la mise en place du concept d’autonomie stratégique ? L’UE pourra-t-elle être leadeuse mondiale de décarbonisation dans la transition énergétique?
- Social: Les campagnes des ONG vertes influencent-elles l’acceptation sociale à travers un discours de diabolisation?

📢 Do you have plans for 9 May? We do, and we are happy to invite you to celebrate Europe Day with us! SAIES & Eyes on Europe invite you to the IEE garden that same day at 18:30 for a HUGE Europe-themed buffet.
Everyone brings a typical dish from their country/region to present to the other students and professors. We will have dinner around Europe, allowing us to discover new dishes we (maybe) didn’t know existed.
Register now, put on your chef’s hat, grab your best spatula and cook us something tasty 😋
A free drink will be given to all participants! We will be selling beers and softs (1€) during the event as well as IEE goodies! 🍻👕
